I can design a schematic of your space to ensure that we are able to plan for and order the materials necessary to successfully complete your project. .
A successful wallpaper project includes a few items:
Measurements: The amount of paper you need to order is based on how much wall space you are trying to cover and how frequently the wallpaper pattern repeats.
Wall Preparation: For optimal results, a smooth surface is recommended. This can be achieved through a couple of methods.
Skim Coat: A skim coat involves applying a coat of drywall compound, (also know as joint compound or mud), to the wall to restore a smooth finish to textured or damaged walls.
Sanding: For more pronounced textures such as Spanish Knife, or popcorn, scraping and sanding will help the smoothing process. This can be accomplished with a wall scraper blade and/or a wall sander.
Priming: Even if your walls are smooth, a coat of wallpaper primer will do wonders to promote positioning, adhesion and presentation. This is definitely a requirement after skim coats or sanding. It is also a good practice for painted walls and new builds to promote optimal presentation.
Wallpaper Installation: There are different types of wallpaper on the market. Installation requirements depend on the type of paper that you have ordered.
Peel and Stick: Theses are very popular and are available in a variety of finishes from a number of retailers. If your walls are smooth, we may be able to move directly to installation with minimal preparation.
Traditional/Non-Pasted: “Traditional” or “Non-Pasted” can refer to most wallpapers that require an adhesive to install. The required adhesive will depend on the manufacturers instructions and the composition of the wallpaper (like natural fiber grasscloth, or sisal). Some non pasted papers can be installed by applying paste directly to the walls. Other traditional types and woven papers require the application of paste to the back of the paper so that the product can expand and contract before it is applied to the wall (also know as the booking process).
Pre-pasted: This option has an adhesive on the back that is gets activated by the application of water. Usually, the paper will require a few minutes to sit with the water before installation to expand or contract.
